Unicycling - Circus 700 - Hull

Magic Carpet have presented Drama, Magic and Circus skills workshops with Chinese, Italian, Irish and British youngsters, with children and young adults with special needs, in Secure Units, in Nursery schools, at the Edinburgh Festival and the Hogmanay Festival...

In 2004 Magic Carpet were asked to work with pupils from Frederick Holmes School to create a Circus Show - Freddie's Famous Fantastic Circus, as part of the Artability Festival.

Financed and organised by Hull & East Yorkshire Ability, with support from Arts Council England, ArtLink Exchange, Big Lottery Fund and others, it was a splendid celebration of performing arts.

With the assistance of Magic Carpet performers, designers and stage managers, Frederick Holmes’ school pupils transformed their hall into a Big Top.Costumes were designed and made, music selected and troupes of elephants and horses created. A full circus show, presented live on three occasions, and on Big-Screen video at The Ferens Art gallery, was enjoyed by fellow pupils, parents, carers and visitors from other schools and it attracted press coverage and excellent comments...

“I was very impressed with the schools performance with the Magic Carpet group. The quality of the circus skills was outstanding. The
colourful and artistic props created the exact atmosphere of a circus. I
thought the schools performance was one of the best examples I have
ever seen of an excellent inclusive culture”. Schools Adviser (SEN & Social Inclusion)

What the press and venues say...

"Magic Carpet present a terrific workshop. They are extremely competent in their supervision and instruction, a lot of energy is used and no time is wasted" - Glasgow Herald

"..a special circus show was staged with everyone having the chance to perform their acts. The children could barely conceal their glee and most left ten feet tall. This workshop is tremendous fun for all the family. don't miss it." The Scotsman

"An action packed day". - Cavendish Primary School, Hull
